Tension and Trauma Release Exercises ~ TRE
Emotional pain we carry within us isn’t just in our head. It’s also etched in our muscles. ~Berceli
For years I suffered from chronic tension. I would lie down on the floor and not relax. I held massive amount of tension in my neck and jaw. The slightest touch to my shoulders would hurt. My first exploration of Yoga was an introduction of this new world of body awareness. I could focus on my neck and tell myself to relax and watch myself NOT relax.
When I switched careers the tension increased.
We all carry tension and stress in our bodies. My exploration was what can I do about it?
If you suffer from:
- chronic back pain
- inability to relax when you sit or lie down.
- Pain in your neck, jaw, shoulders
- stressful memories
- stress from work/business
- stress from accidents
- stress in general
- Can’t sleep
TRE can help.
Our muscles contract as a way to protect the body during stress and trauma. Our body does not know the difference between stress of a high paced work environment and the threat of being eaten by lions. The body stores the stress the same. The body stores memories in the tissues of cells, so we can process them at later date.
Our nervous system is designed to shake out this deep muscular tension and helps the body return to its normal (pre chronic tension) state.
If you are experiencing a stressful time in your life such as
- Building a business
- Pursuing clients
- Legal troubles
- Family illness or death
- Loss of a romantic relationship
- Changing careers or loss of job
- Conflict in the workplace
TRE can help.
Benefits of a regular TRE practice are:
- Relieve stress over time
- Shown to release back pain
- Your body is relaxed, calm and it takes more to send you in a triggered state.
- Pain relief
Life is traumatic. A regular 3 day a week TRE practice can help.
TRE is a physical exercise practice.
Who Can Benefit from TRE?
Since this shaking mechanism in the muscles is part of our natural behavior as humans, everyone can benefit from TRE. This shaking of the muscles, neurogenic tremors, increases the resiliency of the body because it causes deep relaxation that naturally reduces stress levels. It can release emotions ranging from mild upset to severe anxiety whether it is caused by work stress, excessive worry, conflict in relationships, physical stresses or traumas from accidents. Additionally, TRE has been reported to reduce pain, increases mobility, and aid healing of past injuries.

LEARN 7 SIMPLE STRETCHES OF TRE
There is stress received from a traumatic event, such as a car accident, bike accident, or falling down the stairs.
There is also stress we received from everyday life experiences. Soft trauma can stem from working in a stressful work environment for years on end.
Our body responds to trauma, stress and tension by contracting.
